Biography

Mathew Dick is the Principal Lead for Public Health Nutrition at Health and Wellbeing Queensland. His role involves bringing together evidence and policy contexts to advise, design, implement and evaluate public health nutrition policy and programs. A current example where Mat brings together his expertise and experience is as program manager for Pick of the Crop, a pilot whole-school nutrition initiative to increase children’s intake of vegetables and fruit.

Mat has worked as a Public Health Nutritionist for 25 years in roles across local government, regional and state health promotion units. Some of his professional highlights include: an Arabic healthy eating campaign in Sydney; implementing a food and drink supply policy for all Queensland state schools; collaborating with state and local organisations on initiatives to improve food security in remote Queensland communities; and lead policy advisor on national options to reduce the impact of unhealthy food and drinks on children.

Mat values the diverse experiences and perspectives others bring to designing solutions for complex public health nutrition problems and thrives on working collaboratively with teams. The partnership and collaboration focus at Health and Wellbeing Queensland is a perfect match for his natural win/win outlook.
Outside work he enjoys entering public speaking competitions and staying active, especially cycling. The goal for 2021 is to cycle 10,000km and get a more comfortable seat.
